Scheme of work

To create my scheme of work, I assessed the children in accordance to their fitness levels. The assessment was an informal judgement process along with an interview with the main coach, who told me where the participants were at. Therefore I could plan my lessons around this and formulate my scheme of work. I have based my sessions around my coaching philosophies, incorporating fun elements, focusing mainly on technique and trying to cater to every persons needs. The long term goal for my placement is to introduce diverse ways of coaching sprint and enhancing technique within the whole group.

Week 2 – Reaction Time – Track – Outcome: Improved technique and quick reaction times
Week 3 – 600m Challenge (endurance) – Track – Outcome: Improve fitness and feel comfortable and confident with endurance
Week 4 – Relay Running – Track – Outcome: 100m Sprint, technique and speed
Week 5 – Circuit Training – Indoor Hall – Outcome: Improve sprinting technique and core strength
Week 6 – 800m (endurance) – Track – Outcome: Progress Endurance training from week 3
Week 7 – Circuit Training Advanced -Indoor Hall – Outcome: Improve Power and High Knees
Week 8 – Fartlek Training – Track – Outcome: Improve fitness levels
Week 9 – 100m Sprint – Track – Outcome: Incorperating speed, power and correct technique

This scheme of work is in place for the placement at Lincoln Wellington Athletics Club, however it is an adaptable document with room to adjust and adapt to suit the needs of the children’s progress.
